In what seems to have been only a matter of months, NIGHTS has gone from opening act, to HEADLINER status, and it is no wonder why. Taking over club venues, Leaving crowds sweaty, breathless, and eager for more, NIGHTS has made his mark ALL OVER the GTA, and more notably as Resident DJ and one of the Master Minds behind the soon to be legendary HOT FLASHES parties in Hamilton. Be prepared for this dude to take over and be one of the most sought after acts of 2009. Check the tracks for a little pump-up before the night!

Don't Wake The Scarecrow

The Felice Brothers are a folk rock/country band from Upstate New York founded in 2006. Consisting of five main members, three brothers and two friends, the band received their start playing in the New York City subway, but their musical experience started much earlier. The sons of a carpenter, they would play together on Sundays at their father's afternoon barbecues. They stayed in a little apartment in Brooklyn and would play at the subway stations near 42nd Street and Union Square in Greenwich Village.

Recently, they have toured with the likes of Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band and released their second major release Yonder Is The Clock to high review in April of this year. Frankie's Gun is perhaps their most recognizable song to date, most accurately described as "a story of roadside betrayal delivered in the weathered voice of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Lou Reed, propelled by a rambling organ possibly found on the floor of a rancid saloon at the turn of the 20Th century". I've also really taken to their song Don't Wake The Scarecrow from their self-titled album. Be sure to listen in to these true gems and prepare to be dazzled!

Shinichi Osawa

This Canada Day it is with utmost importance that you get yourselves out to The Guvernment in Toronto for their hosting of Japanese electro/house innovator Shinichi Osawa. This kick ass canuck celebration will leave you crawling back for more. I promise! Osawa's latest album The One was recently released on Dim Mak Records where his proven rapport lives well up to worldwide standard.
As a musician/DJ/producer/composer, Osawa has collaborated with international talents Digitalism and Felix Da Housecat, as well as up and coming acts in Japan. That being said, the beauty about his work is that it's truly hard to find a track you don't like. Full fledged synths and hard hitting bass are an understatement. If you want to get the goods and get it quick, I suggest you get out to Toronto and check out this promising party. Check the link for ticket info and more great events. Of course, it's not my style to leave you hanging, so here's a big sample of what you're getting yourselves into. Drop by his myspace for more great tracks and new releases!

Just for Fun

It's been some time since my last update but never fear --Hearts Of Gold is still here! I've been thinking lately about the style and content of my posts and in doing so I've completely slowed down my progress. So today will be as the title says -- just for fun! I've been listening to a variety of new music lately and so this post will be a real genre cluster fuck but I really don't care because after all, this is my blog. That being said, I hope that these videos and tunes enlighten your senses and get you out to support these great artists. Remember that although these samples are available for free, the music wouldn't be possible without those extra pennies you shed on albums and local shows. Spread love--it's the Brooklyn way!
The first tracks are coming from the Kitsune Maison Compilation 7, which I picked up a few days ago. If you are looking for a variety of new electro favourites, these are the compilations to grab for your collection. Featuring new releases and remixes by up and coming bands/dj's, Kitsune Compilations rock dance floors with world class variations that are sure to have you biting your nails in anticipation for the next release. Enjoy these samples and pick up a copy today!

Next, we have the highly praised works of Kelley Polar. Originally a classical violinist at the Julliard, Michael Kelley dawned the name Kelley Polar after several works as part of The Kelley Polar Quartet. His album I Need You To Hold On While The Sky Is Falling is considered one of the best albums of 2008 and is definitely worth a listen if you fancy experimental electro-synth pop.

Lastly, we have a new mix from Hamilton's own Dead Presidents! Successfully hosting events in and outside of the city, these two locals can be found throwing down the best of the best at a nightclub near you. Check the flyer for info on their upcoming show and make sure you get out there to party your ass off!

Team Canada

Team Canada Dj's are making a stop at Hamilton's new venue Rokbar tonight to kick off their Amp'd wednesdays which features local dj's spinning the best indie/electro/mashups. You can expect that this world reknowned pair will get the dancefloor hot and the 2$ mix drinks will surely cool you down. Great music..check.. beautiful venue..check.. dirty drink prices..check. What more can I say. Come out and enjoy yourselves!

Jackson Browne

I introduced you all to Pseudo Intellectuals a few posts back and thought this Jackson Browne video was a great way to show how music today wouldn't be possible without classic songwriting from the past. If you notice the hook from Pseudo Intellectuals song These Days is quite similar to that of Jackson Browne's. Stay tuned for more classics!

Beard Boys

It's beard season round' here! The Detroit Red Wings have pushed their way to the Stanley Cup Finals once again this year and once again I have opted to grow my playoff beard thick and true. I found yet another hilarious video giving praise to the beard and all it encompasses. I hope you enjoy the hilarity as much as I do! I can still remember staying up late to watch this show when I was much younger. Turns out 12 o'clock wasn't that late after all. Go Wings!
